Mirosław Kordos: The best artificial intelligence solutions - research and implementations in industry.
I am a great enthusiast of artificial intelligence with many years of work experience in IT industry and also as an academic researcher. Combination of these two experiences allows me for efficient implementations of my research in practical applications. The artificial intelligence solutions I developed have found many practical applications in material and electrical engineering and in medicine, where they improved the quality of production and services. I am an author or co-author of over 60 scientific papers on artificial intelligence. I am especially interested in neural networks, image recognition and evolutionary optimization.
Recent events in my life
- Here's what I recorded while walking through Plac Wojska Polskiego (Polish Army Square) in Bielsko-Biała on 04.11.2023:
wav@24/41 mp3@320
recorded with 2 x Rode NT1 and Zoom F3. - All the year 2003. I have so much work that I don't have time to write here anything.
- September 2022. José Feliciano is just singing on the radio: "no soy marinero, soy capitán". It was the old days when the captain of a ship or plane was the height of dreams and prestige. And now AI Scientist is at the top. This is how this world has changed.
- January 2022. I have just noticed that when you use a microphone with an anti-Covid mask on your mouth, you don't need a pop-filter anymore. The mask costs 1 PLN and does not limit the field of view, and the pop-filter tens of zlotys and limits the field of view, so what is better?
- December 2021. Today we have finished our (art)work on the decomposition of datasets for instance selection. This should be published soon. So now I'm sitting on the floor, listening to music and wondering why I don't have an armchair, because we should probably listen to music while sitting in an armchair, right?
- July 2021. Recently I was working on hybrid genetic algorithms for advanced planning and scheduling and supply chain optimization problems. I think it will be interesting to share some of my findings, so two papers were prepared and a dedicated web page is under construction.
- January 2021. Happy New Year 2021 - free from radon, carbon monoxide, particulate matter and Covid! New Year impressions from Bielsko-Biała.
- November 2020. Recently we have undertaken a large scale study of empirical evaluation of many instance selection methods. It turned out so large, that we needed three papers to present the results. In the first paper - evaluation of standard instance selection algorithms, in the second one: analogical evaluation of the most modern algorithms and the third one: of our own solutions (which we hope are the best). The first paper has just been published here.
- October 2020. Today went for a bicycle trip to Międzybrodzie. I quickly snapped one photo as proof. Soon we will be taking a photos with only with cheap smartphones and the artificial intelligence will improve it to such extend that even the world's best photographer with the best equipment, who in 2020 makes incomparably better photos, will soon not be able to achieve even half of this quality as artificial intelligence (both technically and artistically). This is what I'm working on.
- September 2020. In the time of coronavirus pandemic, not only the contents but also the form of presentation matters. I conduct lectures online in a well-muted and precisely-lit room. I use a mirrorless camera with a prime lens and a good dynamic microphone connected to an audio interface. Then I put a lot of effort into the production of videos from the lectures using Camtasia and Audacity. Continue reading
- August 2020. Practical applications prove the value of research in technical sciences. There is currently an ongoing project, which applies my research in optimization of production processes with AI methods and another one which implements my research in several factories is just beginning.
Current Events in Poland and in the World
- In light of recent events, it is very important to limit demand for oil and gas. For years I have been trying my best here, cycling wherever possible. A bicycle does not consume fuel, so there is no need to import it. Other things we can do are: 1. Car sharing when the distance is too long for cycling. Blablacar for longer travels, and commuting together with our neighbors in one car. Only a driver in almost every car does not make sense. 2. Turn off the heating when it is not needed. Modernize your house; thicker insulation, elimination of thermal bridges, ventilation through ground heat exchangers, etc. and, after this, consideration of switching from gas heating to air conditioning heating. By the way, we will reduce the smog and the greenhouse effect.
- Reviewing scientific papers is a time-consuming task, not to mention writing these papers. Fortunately, several systems that will perform such reviews themselves using artificial intelligence are being developed (link 1 link 2). The next step is to create a system that will write such articles, which can get you through these reviews. And here, several such systems are underway. So in the near future we probably won't have to spend time writing and reviewing articles anymore. Finally, we will be able to fully focus on what is really important - on developing new solutions and their practical applications in industry and other fields.
- Bielsko-Biała and our region is one of the best places to live in Poland. Studies, work and career in the beautiful mountains - business combined with pleasure. This is always valid, for that reason this info is on the current event list. So I participate in the actions to promote our region, especially in the cooperation between science and industry.
